Are you concerned about having bad breath? Bad breath, or halitosis, can be an embarrassing condition. But fret no more, we’ve got some essential tips for addressing your bad breath concerns!

Brush and floss frequently

A buildup of plaque allows bacteria to accumulate, which causes bad breath. At a minimum, brush your teeth two times a day and floss once. If this doesn’t improve your breath, try doing so more frequently (such as immediately after each meal).

Use mouthwash

Mouthwash is a popular solution for getting rid of bacteria, with the fresh taste also masking some of the smell. For better results, choose a mouthwash that is specifically designed to address bad breath.

Scrape your tongue

Notice that whitish coating your tongue every morning? It’s a breeding ground of bacteria! Use a tongue scraper in the mornings to clean food debris, bacteria and dead cells that brushing alone can’t address.

Quit smoking

Smoking is terrible for your gums, teeth and of course your breath. Your breath will end up smelling like smoke all the time! See how you go with over-the-counter nicotine patches, or speak to your doctor about an appropriate medical solution.

Stay hydrated

Not having enough saliva can cause bad breath and tooth decay. If you feel your mouth is dry, make sure to increase your water intake. Chewing sugarless gum or enjoying sugarfree hand candies can also promote the production of saliva.

Visit your dentist

If your bad breath persists, it’s time to make an appointment with the dentists at Signature Smile Studio. There could be a myriad of reasons for your bad breath, including gum disease, abscesses and tonsillitis, so it’s best to have your condition checked out sooner rather than later!
