Ever wondered how stars keep their teeth in tip-top condition? Let’s go beyond basic dental care and explore some tips and tricks for creating a dazzling smile.

Visit the dentist more often

Most people are guilty of only seeing the dentist every one or two years, usually when they’ve got a complaint. Others might stick to the general rule of visiting the dentist once a year. In reality, you should be seeing the dentist every six months. This ensures any emerging oral health issues can be nipped in the bud, preserving the health of your smile.

Pick up the dental floss

While a toothpick after dinner might provide a quick cleanup, it doesn’t truly tackle the build up of debris between each and every one of our teeth. Start forming a habit of flossing your teeth every night. If you’re not yet convinced to pick up the healthy habit, remember that brushing only gets 50% of the gunk off your teeth!

Swap to an electric toothbrush

Are you still using a manual toothbrush? Electric toothbrushes are more effective at removing plaque and are less harsh on your gums, protecting your smile over time. Your gums are the basis of your overall oral health, so it’s important to brush in a gentle yet effective way.

Eat for healthy teeth

We all know that sugar can cause cavities, but do you also know what foods you should be adding to your diet? Because your teeth are part of your skeletal system, calcium is fantastic for them. Some great sources of calcium include milk, yoghurt, cheese and green leafy vegetables. Your gums also benefit from vitamin C, so make sure to fuel up on citrus fruits, broccoli and tomatoes.

Rinse your mouth after drinking dark beverages

Many of our favourite beverages can actually stain our teeth over time. To combat this, rinse your mouth with water after you have red wine, coffee or tea. However, don’t make the mistake of brushing your teeth right after having some acidic, like the beverages we’ve mentioned. Acid compromises your teeth’s enamel, so brushing them too soon can cause damage to the exposed surface.

These are some of our favourite secrets and tricks for keeping your teeth in great condition. If you’ve got any other questions about taking care of your smile, make sure to give Signature Smile Studio a call on (03) 9783 2747.
